At Risk Baby Quilts
Anna Walvoord is the chairperson for this project
The Baby at Risk quilt project began in 1990 providing quilts to babies in need of NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit) care. The Aurora Sinai Medical Center was the main recipient of our donations until 2022 when NICU protocols at the hospital changed due to the COVID pandemic. In 2023 we began delivering our handmade baby items to the NICU at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay while continuing to donate nesters to Aurora Sinai in Milwaukee. Both hospitals have expressed their gratitude to our Guild and sincere thanks to all those who created these wonderful baby items!
As of 11/18/2023, SCQG has donated a total of 14,069 baby items, 5,071 of which are quilts to infants receiving NICU care,
3,667 are nesters for the preemies and
4,807 knitted or crocheted baby hats.
To encourage participation, the Guild and generous donors provide 1 flannel backing (45 x WOF) and 1 batting (45 x 54) to each member that chooses to make and donate a quilt. Additional supplies may be available depending on donations.
Th guild generally has pattern for donations each year. Any of these quilt patterns is suitable for donation, or if you have a favorite of your own that is similar in size, feel free to use it.
