Camp Hometown Heroes
Camp Hometown Heroes is a camp for children who have lost a family member in the military service. Children from the United States attend camp here in Wisconsin, free for one week. There are two sessions with about 100 children in each. The children are given a folder with a fabric block and color markers that they use to draw or write their feelings. The blocks are collected and members from the guild get together and assemble them into a quilt which is then hung up the next year for the children to see their blocks in the quilt. Members from area quilt guilds make pillowcases that are given to the children who attend camp.
Many Sheboygan County Quilters Guild members proudly make pillowcases for this worthy cause and help with the quilt completion.
